Celebrating the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Recipient

On May 24, 2023, the Kutztown Education Foundation hosted an Annual Foundation Reception recognizing the generosity of its donors and honoring this year's Distinguished Alumni, Mrs. Sandra "Sandy" Green. Family and friends of the alumna were treated to a reception at the Setter Ridge Vineyards, Kutztown, which was catered by the Kempton Kitchen. The reception was also attended by the Education Foundation Board Members, KASD Administration, Kutztown School Board, and our Ed Foundation Donors.

Sandy Green (KAHS Class of 1972 and Kutztown's first female mayor) also provided the commencement address at the Kutztown Area High School graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 25, 2023.  She addressed the Class of 2023 by acknowledging that commencement marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another with new opportunities and challenges. Sharing the wisdom she garnered from 12 years as Mayor of Kutztown, Green stated, “One of the most significant lessons that has profoundly shaped my life is the value of connections and community….I’ve learned that the connections we make with others are essential to our success.”

She encouraged the graduates to “Surround yourselves with a diverse group of individuals who will provide different viewpoints and skills. Sometimes people around us can see potential in us that we might not recognize in ourselves.”

In closing, Green encouraged the Class of 2023, “Embrace the value of making connections, feel your passions, get involved, and always hold dear the love of your family, your friends, and the Kutztown community. Congratulations, graduates. I have no doubt that you will go on to do great things and make your own positive impact on the world.”
