Teacher Mini-Grant Update: Physics is Fun!

Last year, we received a mini-grant application for Toys for Understanding. We weren’t able to provide an update in the spring because the program was implemented at the very end of the year.

Physics students, culminating their learning for the year, completed a unique final exam in which they utilized physics principles to design their own toy. Students used and explained at least three physics principles in their designs. They then built or 3D printed a prototype of their toy and presented it to the class. Students enjoyed a unique way to show their learning. Some of the toys included trucks, carousels, and racing cars. One of the lab aides who helped during that class said, “Students had fun with it! I think students were more engaged because it was a fun way to show what you know. It was more creative. Students could make it their own while still meeting the requirements.”
