Teacher Mini-Grant Update: STEM Challenge

A mini grant allowed 5th grade students at KES to compete in a countywide STEM Design Challenge hosted by the Berks County Intermediate Unit. The challenge required students to develop a solution for a real-world problem using K’Nex materials. This year, the problem was to help PA farmers by creating a robot to perform as high-tech farming equipment. 32 students participated in the planning and research phase of the challenge. Five teams, each comprised of four students, attended the competition armed with blueprints, design notebooks and their disassembled robot prototype. They made a brief presentation about their design process and answered questions from observers. This was the first time any of the students had participated in a project of this type. We are proud of their initiative, determination, and imagination!

The KASD Education Foundation thanks our donors for making it possible to support these young minds and provide them with valuable opportunities that encourage innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
